Los Angeles-based promoter Goldenvoice announced the addition of Marcus “Don Dada” Johnson as talent buyer on Wednesday.

An Oakland native, Johnson has operated for nearly two decades as an independent promoter and marketer for Southern California events, including collaborating with Goldenvoice to ticket many of the company’s shows and festivals since 2009. Artists Johnson has worked with include Post Malone, YG, Saweetie, Ari Lennox, Bryson Tiller and the late Nipsey Hussle.

In his new role, he’ll handle talent buying for Goldenvoice festivals and clubs, including Los Angeles’ The Novo.

“Marcus brings a level of musical taste and knowledge that fits perfectly with what we do here at Goldenvoice,” said Goldenvoice president and CEO Paul Tollett in a statement. “He’s basically been part of the family, so I’m very excited we are making it official.”

“I’m really excited to bring my skillset and expertise to such a forward-thinking company as Goldenvoice,” Johnson said. “Hip-hop and R&B play such an important part in moving the needle on popular culture, and the same can be said for Goldenvoice… the team always has a finger on the pulse. And after spending the last twelve years working closely with everyone here, this feels like a natural progression. I can’t wait to see what we all do together.”

Beyond his work as a promoter, Johnson co-hosts the “I Survived Twenty Twenty” podcast with Rhea Roberts, Goldenvoice vice president of ticketing.
